Book Fair
Our class is attending the Scholastic Book Fair at 8:15 tomorrow morning. You are welcome to join us if you'd like to help your child shop. If you are not available to come, you can send money in your child's folder and I will help them.
GES Database List
I just added a link to the SIGN UPS tab. It is the GES Families Database List. It gives log in and password information to websites that our school has subscriptions for. You are welcome to use any of those listed!

Rock Star Day
The student council is hosting 'Rock Star Student' day on Tuesday, October 11th. The students are encouraged to dress like rock stars. That day is also our field trip so you should take the weather into consideration.
I can't wait to see how they look!

Using Shapes to Draw
In writer's workshop, we are learning to use shapes to help us draw. We can draw anything if we think about the shapes that make up that item. Today, I modeled how to do this. I asked 3 students for something that they'd like to learn how to draw. We talked about the shapes that make up each of those items. I then used those shapes when drawing.
1. Curtains- The widow was a big square and the curtains were rectangles.
2. Pirate ship- I started with the bottom half of a circle, added triangles for sails, small circles for port holes and a rectangle for the flag.
3. T-Rex- I used ovals for the body, tail and head. I added rectangles for arms/legs and triangles for spikes down its back.
This was a great opportunity to remind us to praise everyone's best effort.

Math Homework
We started Chapter 1 in math. The chapter focuses on numbers 0-5. You are welcome to start the Chapter 1 homework in the Standard Practice book.
In class, we use yellow/red counters to represent each number. You can use any small items (buttons, coins etc) as counters.
We call the rectangular box with 5 squares, a five frame. We use it to represent each number.

A big part of this chapter is learning how to write each number correctly.
